Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

Tiah (the "App") is operated by Tiah ("Tiah", "we", "our"). Contact: support@tiah.app.

2. Summary (plain English)

  • Tiah is a free iOS app that shows live weather and severe-weather alerts for the US and Canada.
  • We use your location ONLY on your device to localize alerts.
  • We do not sell your data, we do not advertise, and we do not track you across apps or websites.
  • If you use an online AI provider in the app, your chat messages are sent to that provider to generate a response. When you choose "Apple On-Device", messages never leave your device.
  • API keys you add are stored in the iOS Keychain on your device.

3. Information we collect

a. Information you provide:

  • Name, email (optional), health-profile toggles, saved locations, safety-circle contacts, AI provider preference.
  • These are stored locally on your device. We do not operate a user account system.

b. Information collected automatically:

  • Precise and/or coarse location from iOS, used live to localize alerts. Not transmitted to our servers.
  • Non-identifying aggregate crash and stability reports via Apple, if you have opted in to "Share with App Developers" in iOS Settings. You can turn this off at any time.

c. Information we do NOT collect:

  • Advertising identifiers. No IDFA. No IDFV-based tracking.
  • Contacts, photos, microphone, camera (unless a future feature explicitly asks).
  • Health records beyond the self-reported toggles you enter.

4. How we use information

  • To display live weather, alerts, and predictions for your current or selected location.
  • To tailor notifications to your preferences.
  • To respond to your support requests (email only).

5. Third-party services Tiah uses

(Data may be transmitted to them):

  • Apple WeatherKit (Apple Inc.) — weather conditions and forecasts.
  • Open-Meteo (CC-BY 4.0) — severe-weather parameters (CAPE, shear).
  • NOAA / National Weather Service (api.weather.gov) — alerts.
  • NOAA Storm Prediction Center (SPC) — tornado outlooks.
  • Iowa Environmental Mesonet (IEM) — Local Storm Reports.
  • Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) — alerts in Canada.
  • USGS — earthquake feed.
  • EPA AirNow — air quality.
  • iNaturalist — wildlife observations.
  • If you enable an AI provider: Anthropic (Claude), OpenAI, or Google Gemini. Apple On-Device runs entirely on your device.

6. Location

  • iOS asks you for location permission. You can revoke it at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy → Location Services → Tiah.
  • Tiah requests "While Using the App" only. Tiah does not currently use background location modes.

7. Children's privacy

Tiah is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided information, contact support@tiah.app and we will delete it.

8. Security

  • API keys are stored in the iOS Keychain on your device with protection class "kSecAttrAccessibleAfterFirstUnlockThisDeviceOnly". They are never synced to iCloud and never leave your device except to call the provider you selected.
  • Tiah transmits over HTTPS only.

9. Your rights

Depending on where you live (GDPR, CCPA, PIPEDA, etc.) you may have the right to access, correct, or delete personal information we hold about you. Because Tiah does not operate a server-side user account, deleting the app on your device removes your data. For any residual requests, email support@tiah.app.

10. Changes

We may update this policy. The "Effective date" above always reflects the latest version. Material changes will be surfaced in the app.
